Animal Control

The Animal Control Division is responsible for safeguarding public health, ensuring animal welfare, and promoting responsible pet ownership within the City of Palmview. Our Animal Control Officer is tasked with the following responsibilities:

  • Animals running at large/estray animals
  • Enforcement of the leash law
  • Rabies control
  • Dog bites
  • Cruelty to animals

What we pick up

Animal Control will only pick up the following:

  • Dogs
  • Cats
  • Opossum (only in certain cases)

Due to an increase in estray animal cases we are limited to the space available at the animal shelters and may not be able to address all cases immediately.

Owner Surrenders

The City of Palmview Animal Control Division is not an animal shelter, please do not bring animals into the office.  Due to the increase in pet population and estray animal cases we are limited to the space available at the animal shelter and animal surrenders may not be accepted at certain times.  We highly recommend that owners wishing to surrender their pets attempt to make other adoption arrangements as the surrender should be the last option. Voluntary surrenders are also limited by the space available at the animal shelters and our animal control division may not be able to accept your surrender. Please provide our animal control office with your contact information and our animal control officer will contact you to make arrangements for your animal surrender.

Leash law

The City of Palmview passed Ord. 2013-04 on February 9th, 2013, which prohibits dogs running at-large. By this ordinance, dogs must be on a leash if they are outside the boundaries of their owners property.

Lost pet

If you have a lost pet, please contact our animal control office at 956-432-0300 ext. 3 to verify if we picked up your animal.

Notice of stray animals

Residents should call in stray dogs to animal control at 956-432- 0300 ext. 3. The City of Palmview Animal Control Division houses their animals at the City of La Joya’s animal shelter facility. The shelter houses approximately 30 kennels for estray, abandoned, and abused dogs/cats.  If you suspect that your animal has been picked up please contact our office.

Spay & Neuter

We highly encourage our citizens, and the public in general, to have their animals spayed or neutered in order to control the animal population.
