City of Palmview Issues Disaster Declaration

Posted on March 28, 2025

PALMVIEW, Texas – Palmview Mayor Ricardo Villarreal issued a disaster declaration in response to the unprecedented March 27, 2025, rain event.

This extreme weather event brought torrential downpours, leading to significant flooding, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to daily life.  The declaration follows similar ones issued earlier today by Hidalgo County and neighboring cities.  It aims to expedite the mobilization of emergency services and access to state and federal assistance should it become available.

Close to 10 inches of rain fell throughout the city, impacting many roadways in Palmview. On Thursday, March 27, our Public Works Crew worked through the night to pump water from neighborhood roadways where it was stagnant, while Firefighters and Police responded to the overwhelming number of calls to our 9-1-1 system.

Residents and businesses are asked to take pictures of any damage and report it to the Texas Division of Emergency Management local office by visiting https://damage.tdem.texas.gov/.

Today’s declaration by the City of Palmview is a proactive measure that emphasizes the city’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens and rebuilding stronger, more resilient communities in the face of climate-related challenges.
