PALMVIEW, Texas-TxDOT has begun setting up barricades and detour signs along a stretch of South FM 492 (Goodwin Road) that will be widened beginning this week. Through a joint agreement, TxDOT and the City of Palmview will widen the bridge on FM 492 also known as Goodwin Road from just north of Business 83 to the Edinburg Main Canal.
The project includes demolishing and rebuilding a stronger and wider bridge that will include safety shoulders. TxDOT’s Clemente Mena tells us they will also be redoing the bridge approach transitions on both sides along with some slight drainage improvements to accommodate the new improvements.
The cost of the project is $321,273 of which the city was responsible for four percent saving Palmview taxpayers money.
Mena says the work should begin this week and it does involve closing the section of the road. This means that drivers will have to find a detour as shown in the picture below. Weather permitting the project is expected to be complete in June. TxDOT will keep us updated as work progresses. As always, the City of Palmview reminds everyone to drive safely.
The City of Palmview thanks TxDOT for its consideration of this needed project.
