PALMVIEW, Texas- The Palmview Fire Department recently got some specialized hands-on training here in Palmview along with the neighboring fire departments of Penitas, La Joya, Sullivan City, and San Isidro.
The training was sponsored and conducted by Ironshark Towing and Transport of Palmview. Owners Roman and Anita Garcia say they provide the training annually to allow firefighters to familiarize themselves with emergency scenarios and heavy equipment like the one Ironshark utilizes when called to an accident scene where vehicles need to be stabilized or cut up before a rescue.
This year’s training involved mock drills allowing the firefighters to respond to a bus rollover, a vehicle rollover, and a vehicle pileup. Fire Captain Pedro Venecia says this training is invaluable to all firefighters as it prepares them for real-life scenarios. In addition, he says training along with neighboring fire departments gives them a head start when providing mutual aid because they’re all trained the same way with the same equipment allowing for seamless mutual aid responses.
Ironshark has specialized in towing, transport, and roadside assistance since 2014 and is certified to haul hazardous materials including light and heavy-duty vehicles.
