PALMVIEW, Texas-More than 50 business and community members joined the City of Palmview and the Palmview Municipal Development District (PMDD) today to witness the official groundbreaking for a new retail development along the city’s main thoroughfare. Palmview Mayor Ricardo Villarreal, Mayor Pro-Tem Benito Hernandez, Council Member Javier Ramirez, PMDD President Espie Ochoa and Directors Norma Chapa, and Dulce Cortinas were joined by Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez, Precinct 3 Commissioner Ever Villarreal, and several AGUA SUD Board members along with City Manager Michael Leo and city staff members.

The groundbreaking marks the beginning of construction for The Shops at Palmview – an 8,260-square-foot plaza that will be adjacent to HEB near the intersection of Interstate 2 and Goodwin Road. The project developer Craig Garansuay with Corporate Asset Partners says they’re excited to bring new opportunities for businesses in Palmview that will create jobs. The first tenant will be Wingstop and, will bring 40 new jobs to Palmview.  When the plaza is full Garansuay anticipates more than 100 new jobs will have been created.

Matt Kern, Director of Operations at Wingstop, says they too are excited to join a location where the population continues to explode.  Palmview went from just over 5,000 people in 2010 to 15,912 as of January 1, 2024.  Kern told those in attendance that they can’t wait to open their doors to the public.

Mayor Ricardo Villarreal welcomed the new business community members and thanked them for choosing Palmview.  He said this will mean a lot to the residents because it gives them more choices.

PMDD President Espie Ochoa said this is the beginning of something wonderful in our community that will surely be successful because of the location. This particular intersection averages between 6,000 to 15,000 vehicles daily.

Construction will get underway in the next few weeks and the project should be complete by the summer of 2025.
