Food Pantry Opening Ceremony

The City of Palmview has taken a significant step toward supporting families in need with the launch of its new summer food pantry. This initiative is dedicated to ensuring that no child in Palmview goes hungry during the summer months when school is out.

Grand Opening Ceremony

The official grand opening took place at the Palmview Municipal Library, attended by Mayor Ricardo Villarreal, Mayor Pro Tem Benito Hernandez, and Councilmember Cesar Pena Jr. They were joined by City staff, Pastor Jeremy Mendoza, and members of the media for a special ceremony that marked the beginning of this vital community service.

Community Support and Pledges

The initial inventory for the food pantry was generously provided by Pastor Mendoza’s congregation at Bethany Baptist Church. This support has allowed the pantry to begin operations with a sufficient stock of non-perishable items to serve those in need. During the ceremony, Mayor Villarreal and the Council Members collectively pledged $1,500 to be used for purchasing additional food items, ensuring the shelves remain stocked.

How You Can Help

The success of the food pantry depends on the continued support of the community. Here are a few ways you can contribute:

  • Donate Items: Non-perishable food items are always needed to keep the pantry stocked.
  • Volunteer Your Time: Helping hands are essential for organizing and distributing food to families.
  • Monetary Donations: Financial contributions can help purchase fresh produce and other necessities.

Location and Operating Hours

The Food Pantry is conveniently located inside the Palmview Municipal Library at 603 Palmview Commercial Drive. It is open from Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please note that hours may be adjusted based on demand.
