PALMVIEW, TEXAS- The Palmview City Council this week joined cities across the nation in recognizing the pivotal role public libraries serve in their communities. In observance of National Library Week held annually in April, the recognition is meant to highlight the programs and services provided while encouraging the love for reading.
Here in Palmview, the Library opened on March 23 and offers something for people of all ages such as books, computers, movies, educational classes, and fun arts and crafts activities.
Our Librarian, Jose Tamez was presented with a proclamation during the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting held on April 16. He reported that in the three weeks the library has been open, more than 30 library cards have been issued, and programs such as Story Time for Toddlers, and Citizenship Classes are increasing in popularity.
He also reports that the library will offer summer reading programs and special activities for children and adults. In addition, he’s working with a local author to bring a Story Walk to Palmview. Story Walks include large signs that serve as pages of books that are placed along a walkway to encourage both reading and walking.
The brand-new Palmview Municipal Library is located at 505 Palmview Commercial Drive and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.
