PALMVIEW, Texas-  Dating violence is more common than you may think. National statistics show that one in three teens in the United States will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from someone they’re in a relationship with before becoming adults. That’s why the City of Palmview has joined cities nationwide in observing February as National Violence Awareness Month.

This is a crucial time dedicated to raising awareness and promoting education about the serious issue of dating violence among teenagers. This month-long campaign aims to highlight the prevalence of abusive behaviors in teen relationships and to empower young people to recognize and prevent these harmful patterns.

By engaging communities, schools, and organizations, Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month encourages open conversations about healthy relationships and offers resources for both prevention and support.

One advocacy group providing support to help raise awareness about the warning signs of dating violence and promoting healthy relationships among teens is Angels of Love.  Mayor Ricardo Villarreal and the Palmview City Council presented the non-profit organization with a proclamation during the City Council Meeting of February 18, 2025, and thanked the group for their continuous efforts to break the cycle.

Mayor Villarreal encourages the community to stand together in support of healthy relationship prevention efforts and resources for those affected by dating violence.
