PALMVIEW, Texas – The Palmview Police Department is launching its annual Click It or Ticket campaign, emphasizing the crucial importance of wearing seat belts. The message is clear: the fastest and most effective way to protect your life when you get in a vehicle is simple—buckle up.
In 2024, a tragic number of 1,069 unbuckled individuals lost their lives in vehicle crashes on Texas roads. Alarmingly, nearly 60% of these fatalities occurred at night when visibility is reduced, and the dangers of driving increase. Although more than 90% of Texans consistently wear seat belts, those who choose not to continue to put themselves at significant risk.
To bolster seat belt usage, law enforcement agencies across Texas will intensify their efforts during a special enforcement period from May 19 through June 1. During this time, officers will be issuing tickets to those not wearing seat belts, reinforcing the importance of this lifesaving habit.
Click It or Ticket is a critical component of the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) broader Drive like a Texan: Kind. Courteous. Safe. initiative. This initiative encourages drivers to embrace responsibility, pride, and safety on the road, fostering a culture of safe and courteous driving.
Palmview Police Chief Jose Trevino says by focusing on these efforts, Palmview PD aims to reduce the number of preventable fatalities and injuries on roadways, ensuring that every journey is a safe one.
