PALMVIEW, Texas- As the year comes to a close, the Palmview Police Department reminds the community of the dangers associated with celebratory gunfire as well as it being illegal in Texas. “We strongly urge everyone to refrain from celebratory gunfire to prevent tragic accidents. Remember, whatever is shot into the air must come down, and it does so at a high rate of speed, posing a serious risk to others. Celebratory gunfire is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous. Let’s prioritize safety and enjoy the New Year responsibly. Wishing everyone a safe and Happy New Year!”
Last year, Palmview PD received 38 calls for shots fired during the holiday period starting on the Sunday before Thanksgiving through the Saturday after the New Year. Anyone violating this law can face a hefty fine and or jail time.
