PALMVIEW, Texas- The City of Palmview proudly announces the official grand opening of the Palmview Municipal Library. A special ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 12 p.m. to mark the historical moment. This will be the first public library for the city since it was incorporated in 1972.
City leaders anticipate it will serve as an essential community resource center. Mayor Ricardo Villarreal says this facility will help fill gaps in the community to further education and literacy. “This will truly be more than just a place to check out books. Some programs we will offer include GED/ESL and citizenship classes. We want our residents to recognize it as a place, where they can get the help, they need.”
In addition, the library will also offer basic computer classes, Health & Wellness, Story Time for children, arts & crafts, book discussions, and board game nights.
Opening the library was made possible in part by three United Way Community Impact Grants and a T-Mobile Home Town Grant. Neighboring City Libraries from Peñitas, San Juan, Mission, Edinburg, Mercedes, La Joya, Los Fresnos, and the La Joya Independent School District also donated books and furniture.
To help kick off our library programs, Children’s Authors Dr. Ida Acuña-Garza will read her newly released book “My Grandmother’s Bread Pudding (Capirotada)” and David Leija will read his book entitled “TK’s First Lesson” immediately following the ceremony.
The Library includes a computer lab, a children’s area, a teen area, and an adult section. The library will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
