Chromebook Checkout Policy
Policy
Palmview Municipal Library patrons and staff can borrow a Chromebook from the Circulation Desk for up to four hours for use anywhere in the library.
Important Reminder
- Return the Chromebook on time or pay a late fee.
- If the Chromebook is lost or stolen, you pay up to $1,000.
- Never leave the Chromebook unattended.
Check & Return
Palmview Municipal Library patrons and staff can borrow a Chromebook from the Circulation Desk. Return Chromebooks to the Circulation Desk. DO NOT return to any other department or leave in the book return slot.
Use Policies
- Chromebooks may be used anywhere in the library.
- You can use a Chromebook for up to four hours, but it must be returned no later than one hour before the Circulation Desk closes (see hours of operation).
- Chromebooks are available on a first come, first served basis. They cannot be reserved ahead of time.
- If you have unpaid fines or overdue books on your library account, then you may not be able to check out a Chromebook.

Wireless Coverage
Wireless Internet access is available in all areas of the library.
Turn on the Wi-Fi feature of the Chromebook
- Chromebook will automatically scan for the nearby networks
- Select and connect to LibGuest
- Chromebook is now connected to the library’s network
Saving your work
Using an external storage device is highly recommended (i.e., USB Flash Memory stick).
A File can temporarily be stored on the Chromebook’s desktop, but ALL FILES SAVED WILL BE ERASED when the Chromebook is shutdown or restarted, even if it is accidentally turned off, or the system is forced to rebook due to hardware or software error.
Save your work before shutting down. Palmview Municipal Library staff cannot retrieve lost files from the notebook.
Fees and Fines
Lost, Stoen, or Damaged Chromebook
You are responsible for the full replacement cost up to $1,000 if the Chromebook is lost, stolen, or damaged. Never leave the Chromebook unattended.
Late Returns
Returning the Chromebook after it is due will result in a late fee of $2.50 per hour, or any fraction thereof, up to $25.00 per day. Unpaid fees or fines will prevent you from checking out materials from all Hidalgo County Libraries.

For help using the Chromebooks, stop by the Circulation Desk. If you have problems with the Chromebook, please return it to the Circulation Desk immediately.
